Overview

A macOS-inspired landing page concept where the whole site behaves like a desktop. A full-screen photo is the wallpaper, portfolio images sit on it as draggable files, a dock at the bottom holds the apps (my site, notes, Instagram, Threads and mail) and the menu bar at the top opens a Finder-style dropdown. Clicking "About" opens a window with the traffic-light buttons, headshot, name, position and email.

The challenge

It's a delight to click around, but it asks the visitor to explore rather than telling them anything. There's no headline, no statement of what I do, and the only call to action is buried in a dropdown. Files named "file 1" to "file 6" give no reason to open them, and on a phone the desktop metaphor falls apart entirely: no dock, no drag, no windows.

What I built

The concept proved that interaction can carry personality, so I kept the ideas that earned their place: a persistent bar with location and time, a dock-like footer, windows that open in place instead of new pages. On the current site those became the fixed glass header, the bento cards and the message/call toggle. Same feel of a system you're inside, but with a headline, one obvious action and a layout that works on any screen.

The result

Desktop is the most fun thing I've built and the least useful as a business site, and both of those are true at once. It taught me where interaction helps (orientation, familiarity, a sense of place) and where it gets in the way. The current site is that lesson applied.
